Big News.
The Rubbish Film Festival (RFF) is thrilled to have been awarded funding through Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland’s Screen Stakeholders Funding Scheme. Received under the category of ‘Next Gen Screen Skills programme,’ the funding will go towards the Festival’s new teacher-led hybrid model, which is designed to bring early-stage screen skills to Transition Year students right across the country.

The announcement, made on 29 July 2026, sees Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland invest in 26 skills development initiatives tackling priority areas for the Irish screen sector, from career education for young people, to expanding access in regions hit hardest by funding cuts. The Rubbish Film Festival is proud to be one of the organisations selected.

The support from Screen Ireland means that the Festival can continue to grow and improve, and will not only assist in the rollout of the 2026-27 programme in Ireland, but make it available to more schools and students around the country for years to come.

It is strong acknowledgement of the work, time and effort that has gone into the Festival over the years, and of what its approach to screen education and skills development can do for young storytellers.
