When Meath County Council Environmental Awareness Officer Bernadine Carry met up with Createschool’s Peter Baxter in 2015 to discuss an idea for a project, they didn’t expect that it would develop into the wonderful Rubbish Film Festival.
The original idea was to deliver a series of workshops in schools to make projects that would engage with TY students and inspire them to use the mobile technology that they have so readily available to create short films with strong stories. These films would help create a message and awareness among their peers about the perils of not caring for their environment and about how we can address the issues that affect us all in our own communities.
From a small intake of 6 County Meath Based Secondary Schools, the project continues to grow and is set to involve more counties around Ireland in 2022.
Meath County Council has continued to support the project, and in 2019, we partnered with the internationally renowned Guth Gafa Festival to include our awards and screenings as part of their programme.
