This week’s Clare Champion has shone a light on the achievement of Transition Year students at Mary Immaculate Secondary School, Lisdoonvarna, who have been recognised for their creativity and work on environmental issues as part of the Rubbish Film Festival 2025–2026.

The feature celebrates the work of young filmmakers who, like their peers in schools across Ireland, took on pressing environmental themes – from climate action to waste reduction and the responsible use of our resources – and shaped them into short, one-minute films of their own creation. Through the process, students built practical skills in filming and editing while deepening their understanding of sustainability and the part they can play in protecting the environment.

The recognition for the Lisdoonvarna students reflects the ambition and imagination that Transition Year participants continue to bring to the Festival. We extend our warmest congratulations to everyone involved at Mary Immaculate Secondary School.
