The Rubbish Film Festival Wexford Regional Awards brought together Transition Year students from across the county for a brilliant celebration of creativity, storytelling, and climate action. Held at Wexford County Hall on 10 March 2026, the event showcased an inspiring range of student-made short films, each exploring important topics like sustainability, waste, and protecting the environment. As highlighted in this Independent.ie article, the standard of filmmaking on display was incredibly high, with students combining strong storytelling with innovative ideas and a clear passion for making a difference.
With seven Wexford schools taking part, the Wexford Regional Awards event reflected the growing enthusiasm among students to engage with climate issues in a creative and meaningful way that is taking place across 20 local authorities around the country this year. The Wexford Awards are an important part of the wider Rubbish Film Festival programme, which continues to give young people a platform to have their voices heard, and demonstrates how empowering young people to tell their stories can spark real awareness and inspire positive change, both locally and beyond.
