An Introduction…
Now in its 7th Year - The Rubbish Film Festival is a really unique opportunity for young people to showcase their creative talents, create awareness on Environmental Issues such as Climate Action and to learn some new digital storytelling skills in the process. The Festival is open to TY Students in all Secondary Schools in select counties & participation is free.
Each participating school selects a team of a maximum of 12 students. This team will receive an intensive 2-day workshop on-site in their school from Createschool to help them gain and/or develop the skills to create their own short ONE MINUTE film or films that will create awareness among their peers on their selected issue. The films will be made using mobile digital technology . Createschool will supply iPads and accessories during the 2-day workshop as well as resources and software to participating students to help create and complete their finished films.
The workshop includes ideas generation, script writing, rehearsing, filming, production and editing. This will all be directed by the students. Their One Minute Film will be signed off by the students at the end of the second day of the workshop. Each school team will also create a poster for their film that they will then present along with their film to a panel of judges from the participating County Council.
The Winner and Runner Up entries in the different categories receive a superb trophy for their school and all students receive a Certificate for their TY Portfolio.
The participating schools will attend an awards ceremony / screening of the films in May.
There are links to previous winners and runners up here to give you an idea of what has been created in the past
How do we enter ?
Teachers can contact us to arrange dates for a 2 day workshop that we will deliver in your school. The entry must include a finished ONE MINUTE film and a poster that has been designed and created by the students. There are links to software and apps to help with this in our Resources Section. The poster must also be submitted via email before the final submission date of 31st March 2023.
Each team will then be required to attend the Awards which will take place in May 2023. Venue TBC.
Ta da! It’s that simple. Teachers are encouraged to get involved and support their participating students and the Createschool tutor will be on hand to help the students with technical and production assistance during the workshop. We will also share some great resources to help with the various stages along the way.
